Things your Missionaries wish you knew but were afraid to tell you.     >>

Missionaries can’t tell you about their life for fear of being misunderstood.

Any person who has surrendered to do the work of the Lord certainly has a selfless and giving spirit.  I am sure this is more prevalent in the heart of the missionary.  They love their Lord and want to be a good representative of Him.  Therefore, they are identified by an air of humility.  They don’t serve by “duty,” nor do they complain about what the Lord requires of them.  So it is not very often that you hear about the personal battles they are engaged in, or the defeats they have suffered.  But if they could, they wish you knew some things about their life.
If they could, they would tell the folks who support them some of the things they are going through.  They wish you knew some things they are facing, but are afraid to tell you because  they want to be a good testimony for the Lord.  Like all human beings, they too have the desire for someone to relate with; someone else who would understand.  They too desire a kindred spirit with whom they can fellowship.  Paul had Barnabus.  Then he had Silas and Timothy.  He could openly write letters to them and they could understand what he was going through.

Missionaries also need someone with whom they can fellowship.  It is not good that a man should be alone.  Nor is it good to be surrounded by a sea of humanity, all of which you can have no fellowship because you are out of your element, culturally speaking.

Following are some of the most important things that a Missionary would like you to know about them.  These things are designed to make you think of your missionaries and understand them better.  These things help in the area of support because they need help in other ways than just financial and prayer support.

  1. Deputation is Hard
  2. They live under constant scrutiny.
  3. They are constantly living in loneliness.
  4. They have bad hair days too.
  5. It is difficult for them to take a vacation.
  6. What it really means to be an “M. K.”
  7. About the difficulties of living in a foreign country.
  8. How long it takes to get ready for the field.
  9. How to be a missionary yourself.
  10. About the concept of missions in general.
